Prof. John Ele-Ojo Ataguba
Executive Director, AfHEAJohn, the Executive Director of the African Health Economics and Policy Association (AfHEA) is an Economist, Professor and the Canada Research Chair in Health Economics at the University of Manitoba. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the International Health Economics Association (iHEA), a fellow for the Pan-African Scientific Research Council (PASRC), and a research fellow for the Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) network. He has a PhD in Economics from the University of Cape Town and about 20 years of experience in many areas, including policy advice to governments, technical support to countries, teaching health economics and health systems, and leadership. He has significant work experience in several countries in sub-Saharan Africa, including Nigeria and South Africa and is the recipient of several competitive awards, both locally and internationally. He continues to serve as an advisor nationally, and to international agencies including the World Health Organization.

Professor Ataguba's academic journey began as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Nigeria, where he earned his first-class honors degree in Economics. Notably, he has been recognized with several awards, including the prestigious TW Kambule-NSTF Award for his contributions to science and research in South Africa.
