New AfHEA Project on Health Financing Research in Africa: "Support African Health Economics and Policy Association for research on health financing issues"

The African Health Economics and Policy Association (AfHEA) has been awarded a two and half year project- Support African Health Economics Association for research on health financing issues -funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The charitable purpose is to provide quality analytical work and enhance AfHEA’s capacity to conduct research that will fill in the existing knowledge gaps on effective health financing approaches to achieve optimal health outcomes in African Countries.

AfHEA UHC research documentation dissemination announcement

Dear Colleagues,

As part of AfHEA’s ongoing UHC project in collaboration with IDRC and the Rockefeller Foundation, we are pleased to announce that AfHEA will, from early next week, start providing up-to-date research works and other literature on health economics, financing and policy specifically relating to universal health coverage (UHC) to our UHC target groups, our members and web users. These works will be provided to AfHEA by research consultants contracted under the dissemination component of the UHC project to search, compile and update the website with scientific literature approximately on a weekly basis. These materials will be made available through a menu created on our web site. The postings will be done by the research consultants (School of Public Health, University of Ghana), in collaboration with our IT consultant and the AfHEA Secretariat.

HITAP survey on health technology assessment

The Health Intervention and Technology Assessment Program (HITAP) is carrying out a survey to understand the role of health technology assessment (HTA) to inform coverage decisions in low- and middle-income countries. Whereas the survey received good responses from the Asian region, the Gates Foundation is equally interested in the perspectives of African and Latin American countries. It is for this reason that, as an AfHEA member, you are kindly requested to fill in the survey in the link below. The survey will take less than 10 minutes to complete.

Post-Conference Communiqué - Post-2015 African Health Agenda and UHC: Opportunities and Challenges

The AfHEA secretariat is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Third African Health Economics and Policy Association conference in Nairobi.

AfHEA UHC Training Programme

The AfHEA training on Universal Health Coverage is a core Programme of the Association's Business plan. It targets Ministries of Health and related Government agencies, local research bodies or other related national or regional organizations that need skills in the training on UHC but do not currently have sucient capacities to undertake in-house technical analysis in this area or have such capacities available locally to them. The content of the trainings is based on priorities dened by targeted actors and reported after a wide survey in 19 African countries and 3 regional institutions . It comprises:

Deadline for conference registrations: Feb 28

We now have just over a month to go for the conference and our partners in Kenya. especially the venue hotel, have asked for the participants' list by March 1st in order to facilitate their logistics arrangements. We are therefore asking all who are intending to come to the conference to fill in and return their registration forms by Feb 28 at the latest. This includes those who are still awaiting funding, it would suffice to indicate that you are awaiting a funding decision at this point. Forms can be found at our web site, www.afhea.org. Registration is mandatory for everyone attending the conference.

Those who register after Feb 28 may still be considered, but we would not be able to guarantee this.
