Dr. Serge Mayaka has been a medical doctor for 20 years, graduated in Health Economics from the School of Public Health of Kinshasa (University of Kinshasa/DRC) in 2005 and in Health Policy from the Institute of Tropical Medicine of Antwerp (ITM/Belgium) in 2011.

Dr. Serge Mayaka has been a medical doctor for 20 years, graduated in Health Economics from the School of Public Health of Kinshasa (University of Kinshasa/DRC) in 2005 and in Health Policy from the Institute of Tropical Medicine of Antwerp (ITM/Belgium) in 2011.

Dr. Mayaka has worked since 2001 at all levels of the health pyramid of the DR Congo.

He then successively held the following positions: national expert in health economics at the project monitoring unit of the Ministry of Health of the DRC (2005-2006), in charge of emergency projects at UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund)/DRC (2006-2008) and national expert in health economics at the 9th European Development Fund in DRC (2008-2010).

Since September 2015, he obtained a PhD on health financing at the Catholic University of Leuven (UCL/Belgium), in collaboration with ITM/Antwerp.

Currently, he is Associate Professor at the School of Public Health in Kinshasa where he teaches courses on Health Financing and Universal Health Coverage, as well as Management and Leadership in Health; he is also coordinator of the short course in Health Policy at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp (ITM/Belgium).

He has carried out several consultancies for the European Union, the World Bank, Médecins du Monde, Cordaid, GIZ, WHO, UNFPA, etc. in different countries (Burundi, Rwanda, DRCongo, Ivory Coast, Comoros, Chad, Benin, Ghana, Senegal).
